As normality slowly returns, we need to remind ourselves that our small actions makes a fundamental difference to saving lives.
Behind the scenes, healthcare workers are still struggling to keep our community safe and we as individuals need to support the backbone of the fight against Covid-19.
Did you know a recent study showed Irish healthcare workers have the highest rate of Covid-19 in the world? According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), 88% of healthcare workers contracted Covid-19 from their workplace.
The department of Health's latest study found that 8,000 out of the 25,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases were from healthcare workers. We need to thank our healthcare workers and take responsibility as Irish citizens to show our vigilance by continuing to keep our distance from one another, wash our hands regularly, and wear a mask.
Wearing a mask is no longer a new habit, however; only 33% of Irish people wore masks in June. This has been our reality for four months.
Lead by example and get real. You have the power to protect others from the virus. Small actions can have a mammoth effect and it is nothing compared to the sacrifice that healthcare workers are making every single day.
