Tales from Irish Creatives Abroad
Tales from Irish Creatives Abroad

In November 2020, IAPI launched Ireland: Where Creative is Native (C=N) to showcase the best of the best of Irish commercial creativity.

IAPI’s mission is to promote Ireland as a Centre of Excellence, and C=N is our vehicle to promote this message to the domestic and international marketing and advertising community.

To keep in touch with our creatives abroad we are running a panel discussion with a group of Irish diaspora who are making waves in the creative industry abroad. They will discuss how being Irish has influenced their creativity, and their work/life since living abroad.

We are delighted to be joined by panellists:

  • Katie Kidd, Art Director, The Monkeys, Sydney
  • Paddy Treacy, Creative Director, Wieden + Kennedy, London
  • Claire Healy, Art Director, Wunderman Thompson, New York City
  • Brian Tucker, Founder & MD, Blackbelt, San Francisco

The discussion will be moderated by:

  • Aoife McCleary, Senior Copywriter, In the Company of Huskies and IAPI Board Member

About the Panellists

PADDY TREACY, CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Wieden+Kennedy, London

Paddy is a creative director at Wieden+Kennedy London where he oversees work on the Nike and Bud Light accounts. Before that, he was a creative at Wieden+Kennedy London who ate dinner at his desk. Before that, DDFH+B (R.I.P.). Before that, Rothco (seems to have gone well for them). Before that, DIT advertising masters. And so on. Thank you for reading his bio.

KATIE KIDD, ART DIRECTOR
The Monkeys, Sydney, Australia

Katie is an art director who cut her teeth in advertising at Boys + Girls in Dublin. Two years ago, she made the traditional Irish pilgrimage to Sydney, Australia and has been honing her creative skills (and use of Aussie slang) ever since. She has worked across a broad range of clients, including Three Ireland, Skoda, Jose Cuervo, McDonnells, Hyundai and Krispy Kreme. She has also worked on a bunch of side projects, including a campaign to encourage Irish young people to register to vote for the 2018 referendum to repeal the 8th amendment.

BRIAN TUCKER, FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR
Blackbelt, San Francisco, California, USA

Before starting Blackbelt in 2015, Brian worked in all types of creative production from his early days editing at McCann Erickson to videography for U2, and from scriptwriter to producing for studios in Hollywood. Since 2015, Brian has been focused on AI-powered product design and development. This career path makes no sense to him either, but oddly it all adds up.

CLAIRE HEALY, SENIOR ART DIRECTOR
Wunderman Thompson, New York City, USA

Claire Healy is an award-winning Art Director who completed a B.A. Honors Degree in Visual Communications at The Limerick School of Art & Design. In 2016 Claire moved to New York City where she joined J. Walter Thompson Worldwide (now named Wunderman Thompson), working on Global brands such as Listerine (on which she was awarded the title 'Global Creative Lead'), Danone, Nestle, Starbucks and Save the Children. Her work has been featured in AdWeek, AdAge, Forbes, Super Bowl LII Pregame Show, Times Square and most recently The Drew Barrymore Show.

AOIFE MCCLEARY, SENIOR COPYWRITER
In the Company of Huskies, Dublin, and IAPI Board Member

Aoife is a senior creative who brexited the UK back in 2019. She learned her trade at Ogilvy and Karmarama in London, where she spent ten fun years spreading self-esteem with Dove, using 5 year-olds to sell frozen turkey for Iceland and interviewing the Queen of Sweden for Unilever. After taking some time off to travel, she stopped off in Ireland to see family. There must have been something in the Tayto, as she’s still here over a year and a half later.

About Creative is Native
About Creative is Native

Ireland: Where Creative is Native is the world's first advertising portfolio, the only anonymous platform that puts the country’s entire commercial creativity industry, ahead of individual agencies.

What makes this unique is that all of the work submitted and selected is not accredited to any particular agency or contributor. Ireland's leading Creative Directors across the IAPI membership agreed to remove agency credits in the showcased work.

The project was a collaborative approach involving the entire creative community and driven by the Creative Council of IAPI.

Ireland has always been a place of change, ideas and creativity. Ireland is a country where being creative is second nature; world-renowned for its writers, artists, poets, musicians and all-round change-makers.
