Content Strategy Lead

Across the advertising industry, there has been huge growth in social media. At OMG, our social media team has grown incredibly quickly from 2 people in 2016 to 10 people in 2021.

With that growth, the needs of clients within the channel is becoming broader. On the strategic side of the team, our experts pursue long-term business objectives and success in the social media space through an always-on approach. This side of the team has the most comprehensive remit, with technical ability, creative thinking and strategic knowledge all essential.

We have several key clients who demand excellence in this area, and we have ambitions to support more clients in this way; both by extending the scope of services supplied to existing clients and by bringing in new clients.

We are seeking a Content Strategy Lead who can help to lead in this area; developing a holistic approach across channels and working in true partnership with our clients.


The role is across 4 key areas;

1. Client Success

• Work with Head of Social & Business Directors to ensure managed social media services are being delivered to the highest possible standards

• Work to proactively influence & set client expectations

• Demonstrate thought leadership with clients by developing and presenting client industry/market research findings

• Uncover and understand client objectives, challenges, and needs to actively participate in long-range strategic planning for clients as well as short-term tactical planning and ideation

• Lead senior-level client meetings and attend regular client status meetings as appropriate

• Extract insight from reporting completed by your team.

2. Business Development

• Work with CSD, BDs & Group Client Directors to identify opportunities for upselling managed social media services

• New Business – representing OMG social media in pitches

3. Agency Development

• Foster a culture that enables sharing, innovation, and pro-activeness

• Develop our capability to manage client investment in the most efficient and effective manner across all social media channels

• Build excellent relationships with team leads within the agencies (BDs and GCDs)

• Advise and support social account managers and executives in making strategic decisions and assist with major projects as necessary.

• Take proactive and collaborative approach in driving expertise in content direction

• Take proactive and collaborative approach in driving expertise in social strategy

• Drive the learning agenda to ensure continuous knowledge-building takes place within your area.

4. Team Management

• Act as line manager for account managers and account executives on the strategy side of the social team.

• Encourage and develop junior talent; This includes helping account executives and account managers to develop the hard skills directly required in the fulfilment of their role, but also includes soft skills such as communication, teamwork and influencing skills.

• Be an approachable and supportive resource for all teams

• Assist in the recruitment process in finding the best-in-market talent.


Key Skills & Attitudes:

• Be a proactive self-starter who can take a strategic view of where they can add value

• Have a ‘Yes first’ attitude i.e. look for ways to say yes rather than no

• In addition to expert knowledge in social media management, knowledge of social media’s role within integrated channel strategies is key

• Strong presentation skills

• Enjoy educating clients about how social media advertising can deliver their desired business outcomes

• Be ambitious, driven and passionate about social media

• Possess general knowledge of direct and brand marketing principles and strategies

• Have an adaptive style in being able to communicate often technical ideas in simple terms

• Good commercial skills and strength with numbers, excel and adapting to new tools and systems

• Comprehensive knowledge of self-service ad platforms;

• Technical knowledge of social listening software, implementation of set-up, and interpretation of results. Know of Talkwalker specifically is a plus, but familiarity with Crimson Hexagon or others is sufficient.

• Experience using social scheduling software such as Sprinklr or other ad-optimisation APIs

• Have strong organizational skills, being able to manage multiple projects
