This event is a MUST ATTEND for all agency leaders, creative folk and those with people-focused roles in our membership.
IAPI firmly believes that a talent pool with a broad and diverse range of resources, skills, backgrounds and cultural understanding will better reflect Irish society today; maximise efficiency for all of us and help drive growth for the industry.
Ali Hanan, Founder, Creative Equals will set the scene by taking us through the vital work they are doing in fostering diversity and inclusion in the advertising and marketing community around the globe. Ali started Creative Equals in 2015 with a mission to create 50/50 gender diverse creative departments at UK agencies.
Now, Creative Equals is a leading global company of passionate change-makers. They work with creative and media agencies, NGOs, tech companies, FMCGs companies, healthcare brands, spanning the globe. Brands who work with us include the BBC, Aviva, Philips, Bayer, COS clothing, Rocksteady, Reckitt and more, plus media brands and owners like NewsUK, Daily Mail Group, Future, Immediate Media and more. They also work with creative agencies including R/GA TBWA, Ketchum, Media Arts Lab and many others. They run global programmes for all markets including Russia, Poland, China, US, Japan, Australia, MENA and EMEA.
Following Ali’s introduction, Stha Banks, Head of Paid Social, Core & D&I Council Lead on the IAPI Board; and Amar Jacob, Account Director, In the Company of Huskies & D&I Council member will share with us the highlights of the IAPI D&I Policy Guidelines. The policy has been written to encompass creative, media and communications agencies needs and structure and will be an invaluable guide for all our members.
Shenda Loughnane, President, IAPI and Group Managing Diretor, Dentsu, will then moderate a panel discussion between Ali, Stha and Amar on the challenges, opportunities and tracking of implementing a successful D&I culture.
The aim of the IAPI Diversity & Inclusion Policy is to ensure that the industry is representative of all sections of society and all employees, job applicants, clients and suppliers are respected, valued and given equal and fair opportunity to perform at their best.
Using this policy as a starting point, we hope to encourage all our member agencies to take the initiative to adapt this for their own use or build upon their currently existing policies as is relevant to their business.
Following this overall Policy launch IAPI will collaborate with other industry bodies and design a D&I Guide for the Commercial Creative & Production process from beginning to end.
Over the last 20 years, Ali has worked as a creative director for some of London's top agencies (R/GA, AKQA, Karmarama, DigitasLBi et al) on the world's most-loved brands (Dulux, Guinness, Nike, British Airways, IKEA, etc). When she left the sector to set up Creative Equals, she last worked at Blippar, exploring the intersection where mobile visual search meets real-world augmented reality. While she worked in the sector, she was just one of 3% women who were creative directors back in 2003. The fact is 'who makes the work shapes the work'. She believes who you have in your teams and leading them has a profound impact on who is 'seen' in marketing, which has a direct influence on culture. She believes in 'growth through inclusion' through the five 'Cs': growing committed leaders, healthy cultures, progressive campaigns, diverse consumer growth, all that impact our communities.
They have always been at the forefront of innovation in this area, setting up:
- The creative industry's sector's first Equality Standard, a must-have accreditation for procurement
- CreativeComeback - the industry's first returners programme, now in its third year funded in 2019 by the Government Equalities office and backed by Diageo & D&AD
- Inclusive Communications Reviews for brands to understand representation
- Accelerate, the industry's first multicultural leadership programme
- Business transformation programmes, like 'Inclusive Marketing: rewiring for bias in the system, and a co-design methodology, where we gain ALL perspectives before we rewire businesses for inclusion from the ground up and top down.
