Tackling menopause taboos and encouraging open conversation about this natural life stage for women is one of the reasons Loretta Dignan founded the Menopause Clinic in 2019.
If you think this subject is irrelevant to you because you’re either a man or too young to think about it, think again. THIS EVENT IS FOR EVERYONE, regardless of gender or age.
The statistics alone should convince you - 50% of the population will go through menopause, and the other 50% may be impacted by it. Menopausal women are the wives, mothers, sisters, colleagues, line managers, direct reports and peers. Increasing our awareness and education is an imperative. The average age of menopause is 51 and the average age of perimenopause is 45, so it is not just an older women's condition. With growing numbers of female workforce participation, greater diversity and inclusion and pension age increasing, becoming a menopause friendly workplace is the right thing to do.
Loretta will give us some rich information on the impact of menopause on those going through it as well as the impact it may have on you as a manager or colleague.
After her talk she will moderate a discussion with Liam McDonnell, CEO, dentsu Ireland; Charley Stoney, CEO, IAPI and Jill Downey, MD, Core Sponsorship.
Liam will talk about the importance of being a responsible employer and over-coming ageism. Charley Stoney, at 55, will openly discuss her own challenges with menopause, and Jill Downey will talk about being in her early 40s and the challenges she faces as she moves into the peri-menopausal phase, as well as what Core are doing in this space.
So, please join us for an informative talk followed by what promises to be a lively discussion!
Menopause is a natural part of a woman's life, so why is it still a taboo subject? And why are more women not talking about this period of their lives?
For years women have coped with the symptoms of the menopause, some experiencing debilitating symptoms, with little or no support. They have felt embarrassed and ashamed to talk about their menopause experience. In addition, many women experiencing early menopause symptoms often feel worried and confused by the symptoms they are having...
In fact, according to Menopause Hub: Employee Survey Oct ‘21, out of 77% of women who reported having symptoms, 22% have missed 3+ days from work due to their symptoms, with 85% not feeling they could tell their employer the real reason for time off work.
Their symptoms made such an impact to their everyday lives, that 43% have considered giving up work because of their symptoms with 97% saying there should be menopause training for Management / HR and a workplace policy in place.
IAPI are proud to present a webinar surrounding the effects of menopause and how to overcome symptoms in the workplace. Loretta Dignam will speak about what Menopause is, how it affects women's working life, and how to tackle all the topics that aren't discussed when it comes to menopause.
Loretta Dignam founded The Menopause Hub to give Irish women the opportunity to manage their menopause their way. Loretta created a resource to understand the changes women go through and to show them there is an option to keep living the life they love.
Loretta has had a lengthy and highly successful career working in Marketing and Communications with many multinational, global businesses, Mars Inc, Diageo plc, Kerry Group plc and Jacob Fruitfield. She was awarded Marketer of the Year in 2011. Additionally, Loretta graduated UCD and DCU and has lectured in the UCD Smurfit Business School on their executive MBA and MSc Programme.
Loretta founded The Menopause Hub, due to her own experience of menopause, which she found to be challenging, isolating, confusing and lonely.
