We are delighted that legendary Irish business leader, Neville Isdell, is delivering a keynote address at our Effie Awards Ireland showcase event next month. This event will be a live virtual broadcast from Space To studios in Dublin and Neville will be joined by four other companies, who, along with their agency partners will take us through their Effie Gold winning case studies
As the founder of EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum, awarded with one of the coveted Gold Effies on 23rd Sept this year, Neville has a very personal reason to celebrate the inaugural Effie Awards Ireland and is a supporter of the Effie programme as a global benchmark for marketing excellence. As the former chair and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, he is also an inspirational figures for business leaders who recognise the positive impact brand and marketing effectiveness has on the bottom line. His keynote address will focus on the importance of putting brand at the heart of a company’s business strategy and why creative effectiveness should be invested in now more than ever as we recover from the pandemic.
Joining Neville Isdell, Founder and Owner of EPIC will be the following speakers:
- Jennifer English, Global Brand Director for Baileys
- Cathy Cross, Consumer and Shopper Planning Manager, Diageo
- Seán Moynihan, CEO, ALONE
- Ian Doherty, Managing Partner, Bonfire.
- Ray Leddy, Head of Marketing & Product, ŠKODA Ireland
- Margaret Gilsenan, Chief Strategy Officer, Boys + Girls
- Orla Dolan, Chief Executive, Breakthrough Cancer Research

Neville graduated with a Social Science degree and also qualified as a Social Worker. He also ran operating businesses, as a franchisee as well as time spent as a franchisor, all of course Coca-Cola related, but a clear split between nuts and bolts and general management which included marketing. Neville has lived and worked in 11 countries on five continents.
When Neville returned from retirement to turn around Coca Cola Company he undertook an exercise which showed that advertising spend had been cut too radically. He therefore obtained Board approval of a US$ 400million cut in profits in order to restore base funding. No promise of any incremental sales. When announced the stock price dropped nearly fifteen percent and it took nearly three years to restore.
EPIC was a new brand, all with Neville's own investment and clearly no way to justify a traditional budget. "We went to traditional agencies and were given traditional campaigns which with limited dollars behind them did not work. Then we found Public House who really understood what we were wanting to achieve, and found very clever ways to position us as a legitimate museum, but not a museum in the traditional dusty artifact sense. Serious well researched but quirky. They fully deserved the award and have been integral to our success. They understood the brand we were trying to create . In fact they are co creators."
