Our goal is to broaden and diversify the talent we are attracting to the industry

It’s been over a year now since IAPI formed a National Apprenticeship Steering Group with a view to establishing an apprenticeship in Advertising and Communications.

We are delighted to announce that the IAPI & TU Dublin proposal for an Advertising and Communications Associate Apprenticeship has been given the green light for development by the National Apprenticeship Office (NAO).

We will be moving forward in creating a 2-year apprenticeship in Advertising & Communications. This will be offered at an NFQ Level 6 and will lead to the role of Advertising Associate.

We must extend our thanks to our steering group who lent us their time, experience and expertise to reach this key stage:Adam Brannigan, Frank & Bear; Alan Daly, IPG Mediabrands; Camilla Tuffy, Havas Dublin; Ciaran Walsh, Forsman & Bodenfors Dublin; Ellie Bradshaw, Verve; Geraldine Jones, Publicis Dublin; Kate O’Connell, dentsu Ireland; Kieran O’Donovan, Thinkhouse; Mark O Flaherty, Core; Neal Davies, TBWA Ireland; Dr. Rosie Hand, TU Dublin, Ruth Payne, Javelin; and Sonya Johnston, Omnicom Media Group.

We also wish to acknowledge and thank all the IAPI leaders who submitted letters of support for this initiative, those of you who took part in the focus groups held in June expertly facilitated by MCCP, and all our members who completed our development surveys.

Our goal is to broaden and diversify the talent we are attracting to the industry.

An apprenticeship will create a new pathway into the sector for school leavers and 2nd jobbers for whom a career in advertising may not be viable due to –

  • A lack of awareness of the industry due to socio-economic factors.
  • An inability to engage with full time education due to socio-economic factors.

This development process will be completed in conjunction with the NAO (National Apprenticeship Office) and Solas. While this is a significant step forward there are further stages to get through before we see the apprenticeship launch through the CAO and Generation Apprenticeship.

To that end we will be in touch in due course to seek expressions of interest as we officially form the apprenticeship consortium. If you want any further information regarding this initiative, please email keith@iapi.com
