What really is the future?
What really is the future?

‘Time is running out for ad agencies’ we hear, right?

‘The traditional agency model is dead, convergence is king.’

‘Long live automation - programmatic is guaranteed to deliver ROI.’

Statements of certainty, definitive and immediate, striking fear into the hearts and minds of agencies and clients alike

How can businesses adapt, remake and evolve the new, the now and the next?
How can businesses adapt, remake and evolve the new, the now and the next?

The Future is an event designed to inspire the answer to that very question.

We’re bringing a carefully curated selection of world class talent to the hallowed halls of the RDS. The pioneers of our industry who will inspire us to lead the charge for change in Ireland. This IS where we’re going.

Agencies are reimagining themselves, creating IP for themselves instead of their clients. The model is changing, the clients are wanting more as the world demands more. And it’s the agencies that move fast enough to evolve who are paving the way for the rest.

Take Scott Dadich for instance (pictured above). Here’s a guy who climbed to the top of Conde Naste to be Editor in Chief of WIRED, only to change direction earlier this year to establish Godfrey Dadich with Patrick Godfrey, CEO of his own agency. Together they are building strategies, experiences and stories for brands, organisations and anyone looking to connect with an audience, the creation of the Netflix series Abstract being testament to that. He’s constantly pushing forward, taking risks and making stuff happen. “No one can see the future, but I know I'm happiest when I'm chasing it” he has said.

We’re facing the rise of the robots, algorithms and programmatic – but already the algorithms are failing. The human creators will always win. They care more, they’ll get out of bed to change the world. Creators like Sean Perkins in North, or Stefan Sagmeister, or Design Studio – they apply humanity to the design process. Design Studio could’ve done what was expected for the Air Bn’B brand, but they created something that lives, breathes and entices. Or Ilse Crawford, whose philosophy is to put human needs and desires at the centre of everything she does. So in a world that is getting more and more franchised, she’s creating spaces that unexpectedly feel like home.

How can individuals, agencies, brands and organisations embrace opportunity?
How can individuals, agencies, brands and organisations embrace opportunity?

As well as inspiring people, we’re exploring the tools of our trade. The Future Laboratory will be forecasting, not guessing, the big cultural and creative changes that affect how society is going to morph in the next few years. Plus Contagious, their intelligence platform determining the zeitgeist of the future.

We’ll have a panel discussion led by Chris Nurko of FutureBrand to answer the questions, What role does Creativity play in creating the future? How can individuals, agencies, brands and organisations embrace opportunity? As the old paradigms of agency, client, marketing and solutions give way to ‘new’ definitions of value, growth, innovation and change – how can you stay relevant and thrive? What are the new ways in which the 'crowd', creativity and algorithms can change the world for the better – on a micro-level and epic level? He’ll be discussing the lessons and learning points at the ikigae intersection of opportunity and value.

This event will show you what the breadth of creativity really is.
This event will show you what the breadth of creativity really is.

It’s people communicating with people through different choices of media, and the best creatives in the world are adapting to that and communicating at every touchpoint.

It’s pushing the outer limits of design, technology and competition. How do you keep incrementally making things better? Like Adrian Newey, designing F1 cars for Red Bull - how does he make the fastest things on earth go even faster? Looking for the extra tenths of a second at all times – how do you keep on doing that to win over 150 Grand Prix? The mind boggles.

So let’s be out in front by meeting our heroes, learning new ways and opening our minds to greatness that we can bring back into our own businesses to put Ireland firmly on the global creative map. Brexit is destroying the UK and confidence is at a low ebb. We have an opportunity to firmly establish Dublin on a world stage as a centre for creative excellence, the go-to heart of Europe for the best, the latest, the most creative.

Let’s learn and be inspired not in the smoggy urban centres of London, Amsterdam or Barcelona, all a costly flight, hotel and taxi ride away; but in the leafy suburbs of Ballsbridge, within spitting distance of the office and the warmth of your own bed.

Let’s relight the fire in our bellies. Let’s sit at the front and listen with our ears, eyes and minds wide open. Nobody wins by sitting quietly at the back.

The Future takes place November 3–4 in RDS, Dublin.
