Route 247
Route 247

Each year, Samaritans marks the 24th of July as a way to highlight their service. It’s a reminder to those in need of emotional support that whatever you’re going through, you can call a trained volunteer for free, 24/7.

Current health restrictions, meant the public events Samaritans had run previously would not be possible for the 2020 iteration. So, supported by TBWA\Dublin, Samaritans partnered with Dublin Bus to help share this message in a new way – by launching route 247.

Setting out from Eden Quay, this special service collected Samaritans volunteers throughout the city to help create awareness of their tireless efforts. For one day only, ‘Samaritans 247’ was emblazoned across the various display screens of the iconic double decker bus, along with their freephone number ‘116 123’.

This unique journey was then captured and shared through targeted posts on both Samaritans and Dublin Bus social channels. Culminating in a photo call at Collins Barracks, the activation received national attention through Virgin Media news. And reaching beyond the 24th of July, Dublin Bus further extended the message by running the Samaritans T-side for 4 weeks thereafter.
