On 24th January over 200 potential young creatives of the industry gathered in the Odeon Cinema to join IAPI for the launch of the 2023 Young Lions competition. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Pull the Trigger, Sky Ireland, Business Post, PRII / PRCA, LADbible, Smurfit Kappa, Meta, Droga5 Dublin and our travel partners Aer Lingus, IAPI will be selecting seven teams to represent Ireland across the categories of Print, Media, Public Relations, Film, Digital, Design and Young Marketers.

The national competition registrations are now open and will close on Wednesday 15th February. For the competition, charity briefings will take place on Friday 17th February and work must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 19th February. To participate in the competitions this year you must be 30 and younger, born on or after 24th June 1992.

At the launch it was announced that the Global Young Lions competition will return to being physically on site in Cannes for 2023. Creatives that take part in the national competition and win, will have to travel to Cannes from the 17-24 June (Saturday to Saturday) with all the competitions running simultaneously on site and winners announced on Friday 23rd June.

Speaking at the event Charley Stoney, CEO, IAPI said, “As a young creative in an agency or brand you often don’t have the opportunity to test your individual creativity and see it come to fruition. The Cannes Young Lions competition is the chance for you to showcase unique ideas, test your talents on a national and global scale while working with some of Irelands leading brands and incredible charities.”

Sponsor representatives present at the launch event shared what they are looking for this year and a few tips to submit winning entries. 2022 Young Lions winners Derwin Myers, Senior Strategist, Folk Wunderman Thompson and Kate Stapleton, Senior Account Manager, Edelman present on the day, spoke about their experience competing last year, hints on how best to tackle the brief, mistakes to avoid and why young creatives should put themselves forward for the Cannes Young Lions competition.
