IAPI Film Club
Tuesday 10th June
18:30 to 20:30
In May we went back to the 70s and 80s to look at some classic films and how the film makers introduced the world, characters and theme to the audience in their opening acts.
In June we will come right back up to date by watching the pilot episode of the much anticipated new US television drama Halt and Catch Fire. It will be broadcast by AMC as a replacement for their hit show Mad Men after that show’s season finale.
Created by Christopher Cantwell and Christopher Rogers, this television drama was first screened at the hip SxSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas earlier this year. It is interesting to note that television drama is now regarded as legitimate film festival fare.
However even more groundbreaking is the fact that AMC released the pilot episode on Tumblr as a teaser. Yet another new platform for viewing television drama.
Come and see how today’s television writers face the same challenges of engaging an audience, introducing us to whole new worlds, new characters and stories in the hope of not only keeping us in our seats but having us want to return to these worlds again and again.
